Shadrack Muthami Mwatu is a highly accomplished Senior Policy Analyst at the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA), with extensive experience in public policy research, analysis, and advisory services. He holds a PhD in Economics, a Master’s degree in Economics, a BSc in Economics and Statistics (Upper Second Class Honors), and professional certifications including CPA Levels 1-3 and specialized training in data analysis, computable general equilibrium (CGE) modeling, theory of change, monitoring and evaluation, and trade policy analysis. Shadrack has a strong record of research and publication, including peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, discussion papers, policy briefs, and technical reports covering trade policy, economic growth, gendered participation in trade, low-carbon development, and socio-economic assessments across Kenyan counties. He has advanced technical expertise in data analysis using STATA, R, Python, SPSS, NVivo, EVIEWS, GIS, and SurveyCTO, as well as experience in programming surveys using ODK and KoBo Toolbox, developing CAPI tools, supervising enumerators, and managing large-scale data collection and analysis. His professional career spans KIPPRA, the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), VAS Consulting, and Gertrudes Children’s Hospital, with roles focused on policy formulation, legislative advocacy, program design, impact evaluation, partnerships development, capacity building, and dissemination of research findings through seminars, workshops, and conferences. Shadrack has played a key role in policy engagement, providing evidence-based recommendations to government, stakeholders, and industry, and has contributed to national economic discourse through capacity-building trainings, peer-reviewed publications, and technical advisory. He is proficient in English, Kiswahili, Kikamba, and Kikuyu, with basic French skills, and is a member of professional bodies including the Institute of Economic Affairs and the University of Nairobi Alumni Club. Beyond his professional work, he engages in community service through charity initiatives, choir participation, and educational leadership, demonstrating a commitment to social development and mentorship. Shadrack is widely recognized for his analytical rigor, technical proficiency, collaborative approach, and ability to translate complex research into actionable policy insights, making him a leading figure in Kenya’s economic and trade policy landscape.
